The First Paved Road!

After over twenty years of failed promises, all of us in Maria Auxiliadora are extremely happy that Main Street is finally paved! Though it doesn’t look very likely that all the streets in the barrio will get paved, there’s still a lot to be excited about. I’m personally very happy. No more battles with mud as I walk from my house to the city. No more getting dropped off at the entrance of the barrio because a taxi driver refused to go through the muddy streets. No more muscle pains from mountain biking through the bumpy streets. So many little things to be thankful for!DSC_0720 DSC_0723 DSC_0727 DSC_0735

How long did it take to pave the roads? How did people use the roads when they were being paved? How many roads will be paved? Who pays for the road to be paved? Was it fun to watch?

Hello Grade 2 Class,
#1 They laid down gravel and tar about 3 weeks ago.... but as soon as the steam roller went over the top people were able to use the roads. That process took about two hours.
Then they put a thick amount of asfault on top of their previous work.... and about once the steam roller went over it people were able to use the road. That process also took about 2 hours.
#2 While main road was being paved the cars had to use the back road. But motor bikes just used the sidwalks or the side of the road that was already finished.
#3 So far they've just paved one road (Main Street). But it looks like they might also pave 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th streets.... being that they've already laid down the foundation of tar and gravel.
#4 The Government pays for the roads..... but more specifically a man who is in charge of City Works and is running to be governer is getting credit for convincing the government to fund this project.
#5 Yes it was fun to watch. Can you tell from the photos how many people were standing on the sidwalks watching??? Lots!!
